Dental Crowns Use

Dental crowns serve multiple purposes. For some, crowns act as an exterior fix, using the benefits of cosmetic dentistry to cover stained or malformed teeth. For others, it’s to preserve the integrity of their teeth. Below are some specific ways dental crowns safeguard your mouth:

  • Crowns offer dental implants, a beautiful strong covering.
  • They act as an anchor for missing teeth.
  • For eroded teeth or chipped teeth, they bring restoration.
  • They shield and cover fillings from further damage.
  • Weakened teeth are afforded a formidable barrier via crowns.
  • For cracked teeth, a crown can act as a vice, holding them together.

Procedure for Placing a Crown

At Masterpiece Smiles, we help you understand the process, so you can know exactly what to expect. Below are the steps commonly applied at the time of placement:

1. X-rays may be taken to determine if any tooth decay will affect the procedure. After the tooth is cleared for the next step, the dentist numbs the tooth and surrounding area.

2. To provide room for the crown your dentist will slightly reduce sides and top of the tooth.

3. Next, a digital scan or a putty material is used to create an impression of the prepared tooth. This impression is sent to a dental lab to make it and then sent back when completed.

4. After the permanent crown arrives, new crown replacement begins. The temporary crown is removed. The permanent crown is then placed and cemented to the tooth.
